TWO MANN, TWO SENSE

Hi! I'm Erika. Welcome to Two Mann, Two Sense! (2M2S for short). 2M2S is a musing, where I serve up an assortment of bite-sized tips, quotes, musings, stories, recommendations, and other spicy ruminations about photography, entrepreneurship, creativity, and life. You'll see me in your inbox every couple of weeks.

First things first

I’m not naive enough to think that y’all are waiting for me to arrive in your inbox twice a month. But, maybe there are a few of you thinking, “Hmmm, I haven’t heard from Erika in a while.” The last newsletter I sent out was over six weeks ago. So, where have I been? Nowhere in particular. We did have a busy couple months, traveling to Bahrain, Dallas, Denver, and Mexico. And, we’re heading to Ontario this week. But, really, I’ve just gone through a bit of a dry spell with my writing. And, in all honesty, I just got a bit lazy and unmotivated. One of my main objectives, especially with something as difficult as writing, is to give myself grace. So, that’s what I’m doing. I’m starting again. Welcome back! Will there be another dry spell? Absolutely, but hopefully not for a while. Thanks again for allowing me into your inbox!

I love at least 70% of you!

Timmy, my 13-year-old son, likes to ask me trick questions all of the time. He’ll say something along the lines of “Mom, look under there?” To which I will respond, “Under where?” To which he will say “I made you say underwear.” I no longer fall for that one, but I did a few times. If someone is sitting next to you, as you’re reading this paragraph, try it out? Did it work?

I’ve come to expect trick questions from Timmy on a daily basis. I often pause for inordinate amounts of time to think about what I am about to answer. The other day he came up to me and asked “Mom, do you love water?” I thought for about 10 seconds of all the potential directions my answer could go. I knew it was a trick question, because there was a familiar smirk on Timmy’s face as he waited for my response. “Yes, of course I love water,” I eventually said. “That means you love 70% of every human on the planet,” he said as he walked off feeling satisfied.

This particular trick question stopped me in my tracks. I don’t think Timmy realized how insightful this trick question actually was. We so often focus on the 30% of the person that we don’t love. Well, at least I do. Especially with social media doing such a good job at highlighting our differences. But, if I can believe that I will love 70% of a person no matter our differences, how would I live differently? How would I respond differently? The answer is: I don’t know. But, I’m going to try.

Love,

Erika

P.S.Speaking of people we love (100%), have you checked out Alycia & Janna's wedding photos?
